Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres – June 18, 2021
The Cincinnati Reds (35-32) will try to bounce back after seeing their six-game winning streak shattered heartbreakingly last night. The San Diego Reds and Padres (39-32) have played one of the most exciting games in MLB this season, and the two teams will face off again at 10:10 p.m. The Reds are 12-4 since May 30, the best record in the National League.
Tony Santillian made a solid debut in MLB. You can certainly see the benefit it brings to the rotation. The only thing he can’t do is walk 4 hitters again tonight. The Padres have a very dangerous training and will make him pay. Hopefully he was just a little over-amplified for his MLB debut. He had a 3.34 BB / 9 to AAA rate this season.
Chris Paddack is in his third season in MLB. He burst onto the scene in 2019 and looked like a future ace. He took a step back in the short season a year ago, but he looks like a solid starter again this year. As of May 1, he has an ERA of 3.36 in 7 starts. The bright spot for the Reds is that he’s averaging less than 5.0 innings per start and hasn’t gotten a 7th inning out this season. He made a start against the Reds at Petco in April 2019: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Tucker Barnhart and Joey Votto beat him. It was only his fourth career start.

News and Notes
Mike Moustakas, Tejay Antone and Michael Lorenzen Injury Updates
Earlier today, Doug Gray wrote about the status of several of the Cincinnati Reds players who are currently on the injured list. Tejay Antone could return later this weekend, but there will be a wait for Moustakas and Lorenzen before they get the chance to see them return to Cincinnati and the Great American Ball Park.
The end result stank last night, but my gosh it was a fun baseball game. It’s exciting to see our Cincinnati Reds play in these types of games. It was the best baseball moment on the networks today. This Reds team did not give up in them. Hopefully Tony Santillian can give the Reds a good start tonight and they can start another winning streak. Go Red !
