Cub Pack 55 starts off a great year
Pack 55 kicked off the Year of Scouting 2021/2022 in a fun way, with an outdoor movie night. New Scouts, Returning Scouts and Potential Scouts learned camping essentials and supplies, provided service with donations to INN, and enjoyed s’mores. The evening ended with a screening of The Lego Movie on the grounds of the Pack sponsor, The Cathedral of the Incarnation.
October brought one of the highlights of the year for Cub Scouting, the annual Pinewood Derby tournament. This year’s event was held outdoors on October 2. The Pinewood Derby involves a gravity race where Cubs design and build their own race cars, with help from their parents, from a block of wood. On race day, Boy Scouts watch their cars hurtle down the metal track, reaching speeds of 189 mph and delighting boys and girls and their families. The rewards are given by rank to those who have achieved the best times. Creativity and design are also rewarded. The pride of the Boy Scouts for their hard work and cool cars is contagious, leading to a wonderful event enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Equally exciting are the upcoming events of Pack 55. October 23 is the annual Camp-Out on the grounds of the cathedral. This big event features a campfire, skits, jokes and s’mores. This year we will also be celebrating Halloween! And on November 13, Pack 55 will attend West Point Boy Scout Day, as Army Football takes on Bucknell. In addition to football, before the game, Scouts can watch the Cadet Magazine and take guided walking tours of the campus by the cadets.
Pack 55 is open to all boys and girls from Kindergarten to Grade 5. It includes Scouts from Garden City and the entire surrounding area. There is no specific school your child must attend to join Pack 55, and registration is open now and throughout the year.
