Get to know designer Aazhia Rhy from TLZ L’Femme

Aazhia Rhy has had a whole year – unlike most of us, in a good way. TLZ L’Femme designer hasn’t just deposited over 10 capsule collections, she’s dressed a handful of celebrities, including R&B sister duo Chloe x Halle at the BET Awards and Kylie Jenner (with daughter Stormi!) Vogue Czechoslovakia. After solidifying her position at the forefront of next generation fashion, Rhy is now in full expansion mode for 2021. “Sometimes you don’t realize everything you do because you just keep following. the movements, ”she told POPSUGAR.
Before launching his label, Rhy was a style icon in his own right. Known for her bold and inspired outfits from the early years, the designer has often served as her own muse and has expressed herself through fashion from an early age. It was Rhy’s sister, Janaé Rice, who first put fashion design on her radar after introducing her to the art of reworking clothes. “My appearance was important to me,” Rhy laughs. “My dad would see me leave the house in Wranglers and a white T-shirt, but I would have a Distraught[-inspired] outfit in my backpack: knee-highs, a plaid skirt and matching hair stuff. The cult ’90s film is a fitting favorite for Rhy, who developed her own nostalgic aesthetic with her clothes.

By doubling the creativity of black women, stylist Zerina Akers amplified Chloe x Halle’s haute couture look with jewelry from the black brand Jeblanc. “It was really empowering knowing that we can stick together and create these special moments,” said Rhy. “Because it’s always a little scary.” Not to mention the time factor.
