Girl pleads guilty to DC car hijacking that killed Uber Eats driver – NBC4 Washington

A 13-year-old girl pleaded guilty to murder Thursday after she and another girl hijacked a man this spring near Nationals Park, his car overturned and he died.
The girl pleaded guilty in juvenile court to second degree murder. The other charges will be dropped. Under the maximum sentence, she would be released once she turns 21.
The second carjacker, a 15-year-old girl, pleaded guilty to murder last month in juvenile court, sources told News4.
Both girls are in the custody of DC’s Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services and face years of juvenile detention.
Mohammad Anwar, of Springfield, Va., Was in a gray sedan and working as an Uber Eats driver when the girls asked him for a ride near the Navy Yard subway station, prosecutors said.
Anwar had only driven a few blocks when the girls, armed with a stun gun, attempted to steal his car in the 1200 block of Van Street SE.
Anwar tried to take control of the car and accelerated, hit a tree and several parked cars, and overturned the car.
Police arrived around 4:30 p.m. and found Anwar injured on the sidewalk. Doctors took him to the hospital, where he died.

A cell phone video shot by a witness above N Street shows the immediate aftermath of the crash. Anwar can be seen on the sidewalk. Two National Guard soldiers in the area pulled the two girls from the overturned car as its wheels were spinning.
The girls lied to passers-by and said the car was theirs, prosecutors said.
The girls were arrested on the spot.
News4 was the first to report the crime, one of several recent carjackings committed by young people.
Anwar was a father and grandfather with relatives in the United States and Pakistan, his family said.

The 15-year-old should be sentenced on Friday. The 13-year-old is expected to be sentenced in July. Several of the victim’s family are expected to speak publicly for the first time during their sentencing hearings.
