Jennifer Lopez’s brunette outfits are an expert-level pick for fall
Whether or not a neutral, monochrome outfit is a misstep has remained one of the most controversial issues in fashion. The age-old debate looks like this: Is an empty gaze dull? Or, on the other hand, does it represent the pinnacle of effortless glamor? Some fashion insiders, notably Anna Wintour, fall into the first camp (“Don’t wear all black,” she said in her 73 questions video for Vogue, because she finds it “too dark” like a funeral costume.). Others, however, proudly endorse an all-neutral look. For example, Jennifer Lopez wore two brown outfits back to back in one weekend. And since Lopez’s sets both used a rich mahogany color palette, as opposed to an inky black palette, maybe even the trusty Wintour would approve.
On October 10, Lopez was seen strolling through New York City with handsome Ben Affleck, sporting a coordinated look in a rich chocolate hue. Starting with a black turtleneck as a base layer, the singer wore a Gucci cape in brown leather and suede with a matching pencil skirt and suede knee-length boots. In her seemingly endless collection of handbags, Lopez chose to wear Chanel’s 2.55 flap bag in dark brown quilted leather. Finally, she accessorized gold hoops (a well-documented basic earring for Lopez) and a pair of chestnut-tinted aviator sunglasses that gave her a decidedly retro look.
Ahead of her street style outfit on October 9, Lopez attended The last duel Premiere in New York. She donned a sparkly coordinating ensemble from Hervé Léger in a rich brown color reminiscent of a decadent candy bar for the first film. Her two-piece set consisted of a cropped long-sleeved top revealing the abs and a maxi skirt with a slit on the legs that fell just above her knee. She walked the red carpet in Femme LA strappy heels and a hand-crafted Tom Ford croc-effect clutch.
Lopez isn’t the only one who loves the cocoa hue; Kendall Jenner gravitates towards monochrome brown outfits as well. A few worthy of screaming are the mannequin’s matching sweat sets worn throughout her forties and a two-piece cappuccino-colored leather suit that doubled as a shot of caffeine.
The dark hue gives off an unmistakable fall vibe, making it a natural shade to pull on throughout the 2021 season. Why not take some inspiration from Lopez and make a coordinating brown two-piece outfit your fall uniform. ? Or, you can find more subtle ways to inject some color into your cold-weather wardrobe via a leather handbag or a trendy boot. Below you’ll see Lopez’s exact brown leather Gucci skirt, along with a few other clothes to help you start building your arsenal of all-brown outfits.
