Riot is planning several major kit changes for Gwen in League Patch 12.13
One of the most influential choices in the professional field League of Legends over the past year must be Gwen, the sacred seamstress. The brave doll turned human has been the champion of choice for many around the world, but in patch 12.13 Riot Games plans to shift some of her power around her kit.
First, Gwen’s Snip Snip ability will be hit with a 25% reduction in her true damage, but her base damage and final slash damage will also get significant buffs. Farming should be easier with Snip Snip, although its minion damage will decrease by 25% since the ability will execute minions under 20% health.
Gwen’s most controversial ability, Hallowed Mist, also gets some changes, with its duration reduced by one second but its resistance increased accordingly. It will be interesting to see how well this trade-off plays out for players as they progress through the later stages of a match. The Seamstress’ early mobility also takes a hit with some nerfs for Skip n’ Slash’s early cooldown refund on the basic attack. However, the ability improves his bonus attack range and overall damage.
His ultimate ability will increase his damage per needle swipe, but instead of having to hit an auto attack or Snip Snip in between, players will only have to wait 1.5 seconds to land the second and third throws .
This should make skirmishes and teamfights much easier for players who aren’t able to sneak in single attacks because they’re at a disadvantage matchup and can’t get in range. This is a pretty big nerf to her burst abilities, as she can’t dish out all of her ultimate charges as quickly as before.
Overall, it feels like Riot is trying to swing Gwen into more solo queue players by making her abilities a bit easier to ride, including her ultimate and farming with her Q ability. For players well versed in its mechanics, the changes might take some getting used to. But for anyone who wanted to give Gwen a try, Riot is making her much easier to learn.
Patch 12.13 is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13.
