Saweetie Posts Selfie With Mom Trinidad Valentin And Fans Can’t Believe They’re Not Sisters
Saweetie is used to capturing the internet’s attention. Whether it’s convincing nearly all of us to shave our hair off and dye it pink, or use it mega red stiletto manicure as inspiration for our next salon date, the 28-year-old rapper knows a thing or two about fashion-forward beauty looks.
But this time, it wasn’t her hair or her manicure that caught Instagram’s attention, but her mom. Last night (Thursday, March 3) at the Billboard Women in Music 2022 event, Saweetie performed her hit “Closer” and accepted the “2022 Game Changer Award,” presented to her by her mother, Trinidad Valentin. She gave a moving speech about her daughter’s growth as an artist and how extremely proud of herself she is.
Of her daughter’s love of poetry growing up, Trinidad said, “Her poetry had turned into rhyme and the rhyme into rap.”
Fans on Instagram and Twitter were quick to express their utter disbelief at the young Trinidad’s appearance. “You all look like sisters. Not mom and daughter❤️🙌🔥😍😍’, wrote one fan, while another asked, ‘Not your sister?’ and one even commented, “His mom looks younger than his lol saweetie looks like his big sister”.
“It’s the Filipino mother genes 🙌🙌🙌 ❤️❤️❤️,” said another, which Saweetie herself echoed on Twitter, writing, “AND THAT’S THE WORD TO MY MAMA SHE DA FILIPINO QUEEEEEN”.
People were quick to point out the resemblance between Saweetie’s mother and a former Pussycat Doll. “I thought it was Nicole Scherzinger,” said one fan. ‘omg she looks so much like the pussycat dolls member,’ another said.
Saweetie, whose real name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, was born on July 2, 1993 in Santa Clara, California. Mom Trinidad was born in 1976, which means she’s around 46 years old (her exact birthday hasn’t been disclosed), and she’s of Filipino and Chinese descent. Saweetie’s father, Johnny Harper, is an African-American footballer.
