The future looks bright @ The Ruth – Buffalo Rising

An exciting new project is underway in downtown Buffalo. Community activist and neighborhood shaper, Bernice Radle (founder and CEO of Buffalove Development) prepares to unveil the future of 523 Main Street (learn more). 523 Main Street (also 500 Washington Street) is known as ‘Ruth. For years, we’ve seen this “full of potential” building bought and sold, built and rebuilt, but now it looks like its future is brighter than ever.
“There are 11 seats on the first floor,” Bernice said. “9 of them are currently rented by women entrepreneurs. Vintage clothes, jewellery, an immersion experience for children, a pastry chef, a beauty shop, a seamstress… it’s really cool to see everything coming together!
This is exactly what the city center needs the most. Similar to the Market Arcade experience, just around the corner, 523 Main Street will become a destination-focused marketplace where people can purchase multiple items. It is these types of shopping experiences that become the anchors of shopping districts. After all, being a sole pioneer can be a scary undertaking. But when you’re surrounded by like-minded small businesses, security comes in numbers. There is also the benefit of enhanced marketing opportunities, since all of these companies have their social media channels at their disposal.
Regarding the front of the building facing Main Street, Bernice said, “We have an ongoing lease and we’re really excited! Many of these small start-ups found success with pop-ups during covid, and now they’re taking a leap of faith with their first brick-and-mortar storefront. I am so proud of everything that is happening. »
Berenice also said that all commercial spaces are expected to be filled by March 1. And Kali’s Cakes is set up in the large window facing Washington Street.
Everyone should be thrilled to hear about this latest downtown development. It looks like a lot is falling into place these days, with all of Douglas Jemal’s recent ventures, as well as the many other construction projects underway (see 2021 recap).
