SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Four teenage girls say they were almost kidnapped while walking their dogs last Thursday night. The girls say they were chased, harassed and terrorized by nearly half a dozen young men.

This happened just before dusk as the girls were walking on Oakview Drive near Churchill Jr.

“We were having a conversation and two cars pulled up next to us and started cursing at us,” said one of the girls.

The girl’s parents asked us not to identify her for security reasons. For this story, ABC4 will call the girl “Molly”.

“They turned around and they all got out and started chasing us,” Molly continued.

“I felt this rush of adrenaline and fear, and I tried running but I have asthma,” says her friend, who will be called “Jane” to protect her identity.

“I’m so thankful that there was a turn and I was able to jump right before he tried to catch me,” adds Jane.

She says it’s not the first time she’s seen this.

“I can’t believe this has happened more than once, it’s just crazy,” says Jane.

Unified police investigate potential leads and review surveillance footage, but trauma sets in.

“I didn’t sleep, I had nightmares,” says Molly. “Every car I see go by that looks like the vehicle, I’m just terrified.”

All the girls say they want to empower these young men.

“I want to face them in a safe environment and explain to them what the four of us have been up to,” says Molly.

It may not be an isolated incident, and the Unified Police are calling on parents to speak to their children and come forward if this is true.

Here are four safety tips the Unified Police give students when they leave school as summer approaches:

  • Use the buddy system
  • Stay in well-lit places
  • Call the police if there is a problem
  • Record your interactions so agents can follow up with people of interest
